With the advance of national basic educational curriculum reform and the development of quality education, group cooperative learning has been widely applied in class teaching with various degrees. More and more teachers and educational researchers have begun to realize that group cooperative learning is not simply equal to dividing students into groups to learn together. Group cooperative learning carried in class shows the crisis of simplistic tendency.The typical manifestations of the crisis of group cooperative learning are linearization, excessive pursuit of certainty, ignorance of self-organization and insisting reductionism. The reason for crisis is precisely the arrogation of simple thinking. Group cooperative learning in the viewpoint of simple thinking, not only simplifies the complexity of education, but also ignores self-organization of individual learning and many uncertain factors in the process of group cooperative learning.We believe that the breakthrough of group cooperative learning’s crisis lies in the application of complexity thinking to analyze. So, it provides methodology and thinking mode for group cooperative learning’s effective realization.Complexity theory is the abandon and transcendence of simplicity thinking, static closure, linear reduction and mechanical determinism in scientific research since western modern times.Group cooperative learning in the domain of complexity theory, at the theoretical level, focuses on process and participation of group cooperative learning; maintains the openness of group cooperative learning; emphasizes the self-organization of group cooperative learning. At the operational level, it aims to actively build a learning community to create a relaxed atmosphere; to learn to listen and dialogue; to adopt a wide range of evaluation methods.After building theoretical vision and practical vision of group cooperative learning in the viewpoint of complexity theory, the author carried out the experimental research for1year in a primary school of Shanghai Pudong New Area. Although we have gained preliminary result, more left to us is questions and reflection.
