Mathematics plays an unique and role in the process of cultivating mankind’s rational thinking. It is widely acknowledged by many teachers and parents that arts students have difficulty in learning mathematics in senior middle school, which has great effects on their all-round development and their ability of adapting the society. As a maths teacher, I have responsibility for improving students’ performance in learning Mathematics.The paper is based on a survey of arts students in Senior One and Senior Two in Sanxia Senior Middle School, Yichang, Hubei Province. In the survey, arts students are regarded as a normal group rather than one with trouble. The research has been done in a all-round and detailed way from three aspects such as teacher-student relationship, learning causal attribution and non-intelligence factors including learning motives, interest, emotions, willpower, confidence, learning methods, learning habits and attitude towards learning. All the statistics in the paper are true and effective and by analyzing the statistics strong points as well as weak points of arts students are discovered. In the paper, we have summarized learning characteristics of arts students in learning Mathematics by contrasting arts students and science students as well as arts students in different grades.The striking point of the paper is that the paper stresses the research process, namely how the author got the conclusion. By doing the research, we intend to provide detailed and dependable references for arts students Mathematics teaching so as to summarize some teaching laws and take active measures to improve arts students’performance in Mathematics learning.
