Study Of Aid For Minor Children Of Prisoners Intervened By Social Work

The minor children of prisoners are a special disadvantaged group, who derivedgradually from social transformation in recent years. Because one or both of thecouple have to serve a sentence in prison, they can not perform their duty andguardianship for their minor children. The poor living conditions seriously affect notonly children’s mental and physical development but also social stability. As a result,some of the children drops out, others beg to survive even turn to crime. So it’snecessary to research the issue of the minor children of prisoners. Our socialassistance systems and policies aren’t perfect now in China, so such a large number ofdisadvantaged groups have brought tremendous pressure to the society. However,some charities, such as Beijing Sun Village, make up the lack of policy. Based on thesituation of minor children of prisoners, this study makes suggestions and solutions.In the object of study, the author takes the actual participation in management and theprocess of supported projects of Sun Village as a basis. In the research methods andprocess, the author are trying to help the minor children to solve kinds of problemswith questionnaire, interview, observation and other professional methods under theguidance of social work. Mental problem, the dilemma of growth and crimeprevention are the important points in this study. In the result of research, the authorwould like to summarize intervening modes and advantage of social work in theintervention of minor children of prisoners. It’s good for resolving the mentalproblems of these minor children, helping them to receive more support and a betterdevelopment. This study takes Children Welfare Center of Beijing Sun Village as acase. The author summarizes the successful experience, the shortages of managementsystem and the development mode. The author also defines the connotation andessence of harmonious families, analyses the related factors in the growing of minor children and explains the basic intervening theories of social work. At the same time,this study analyses the reasons the problem caused and forecasts the adverseconsequences to the minor children. Meanwhile, this study has proposed thereasonable guidance of social work intervening in minor children, and constructed anew modern type of social work; established goals and contents of construction;proposed the approach and modes for intervention. At last, based on the practicalresearch data and aid guidance of typical cases, the author thinks over the practicalsuggestions and solutions on how to help the minor children from the aspect of nation,society and individuals.
