Tai Chi is a fine traditional culture left by our predecessors, which is influencedideologically by Taoism. It follows Taoism and forms a distinctive thought with Tai Chicharacteristics as guidance. Tai Chi has its unique ways to practice. From the perspective offitness, Tai Chi is an aerobic exercise. From the martial aspect, Tai Chi lays emphasis onself-giving for the opponent, which using soft to overcome hard and the minor force winningenergetically, and it shows the deep connotation of Tai Chi. If you want to practice Tai Chiwell, you must have a good learning and understanding of the Tai Chi’s concepts of thinking.With the increasing emphasis on health, more and more people practice Tai Chi; however,there are mangy misunderstandings. Some people have a unilateral and superficialunderstanding of Tai Chi and think it is a boxing for older people, which has just aerobics ofstyle and no substance, not even aware of its martial function. The root cause of thosemisunderstandings is the lack of sufficient knowledge about Tai Chi as well as notunderstanding of Tai Chi’s thinking and movement mechanisms. So this article starts from theunique influence of Taoism on the Tai Chi and from the unique perspective of reverse thinkingto analyze the philosophical basis, practice philosophy, movement mechanism and martialcharacteristics of Tai Chi, which can deepen people’s understanding of Tai Chi and have abetter guidance of the self-defense and body-building. Those are good for improving thepractice level and can be also applied to daily life to understand harmony between man andnature as well as the essence of life. The main influential ideas from Taoism include somereverse thinking such as natural inaction worldview, never beyond excess ideas and goldenmedian theory, the idea of using soft to overcome hard. It forms special Tai Chi thinking suchas Tai Chi Circumference Philosophical Concept, Holism, Self-giving for the Opponent, theclear distinct between Yin and Yang and using the weak to defeat the strong. The externalstyles in the Tai Chi skills and tricks include natural action, body relaxation, flexible and rigidcombined management, transformation between deficiency and excess, companying ofdynamic and static and circular sliding of action. The external styles in the in Tai Chipush-hands include using soft to overcome hard, using dynamic to overcome static,persistence in concession, the minor force winning energetically and so on. Therefore everyaction in Tai Chi contains profound principle. As a result, having a good master of Tai Chithinking, a better understanding of theoretical basis and changing of thinking mode can bring us a correct mode of thinking, a scientific exercising way and an ideal practicing effect.
