The emergence of the Internet which possesses abundant resources and informationbreaks through the restrictions of geographic locations and accelerates the steps of computermediated communication and cooperation. At present, almost all the developed countriesincluding China have built up their own national education and scientific research networkand connected with the Internet. By 2011, there are approximately 2.1 billion Internet users allover the world. The development of American community started after World War Two,getting practical blossom in 1960s, and presented rich and colorful prospects in the 21stcentury. The application of the Internet influenced a lot on American urban communitydevelopment. Through five sections this essay made a tentative exploration on the influenceof the Internet application on political, economic, cultural and educational and social aspectsof the influence of the Internet application on American communities.The first section introduced the conception, history and functions of the Internet. Itmainly concerned the conception, types and ranges of the community; the history, patternsand systems of American communities. Finally the essay took Three Rivers Free Net as anexample to analyze the influence of the Internet application on the construction of Americancommunities.The second section discussed the influence of the Internet application on the politic lifeof American urban communities. It mainly introduced the influence of the Internet applicationon the community elections, and took Arizona Democratic primary in March 2000 forinstance to make a deep research; the influence of the Internet application on the governmentaffairs of American urban communities, i.e. the emergence of E-government; the influence ofthe Internet application on legal communities, including counting lawyers online, E-mailcommunication, marketing and advertising, answering legal questions online and doingInternet legal research.The third section probed the influence of the Internet application on the economic life ofAmerican urban communities. It mainly focused on the influence of the Internet applicationon the community business and medium-sized and small enterprises, especially theE-commerce application in Pennsylvania; the influence of the Internet application on thecommunity banks, especially the emergence of E-banks and the community banks in Texas. At last it discussed the influence of the Internet application on community tourism, includingthe emergence of E-travelling and the research on the application of E-travelling ofcommunity residents.The fourth section considered the influence of the Internet application on the cultural andeducational aspects of American urban communities. It can be divided into two parts: the firstpart was the influence of the Internet application on community libraries, focusing on theconstruction of E- library and the application of E-government in community libraries. Thesecond part made a presentation of the influence of the Internet application on the onlineeducation in community colleges, and the key point was the development and application ofonline education. It also mentioned the Florida community college online education. Finally itreferred the influence of the Internet application on the education in middle and primaryschools.The fifth section explained the influence of the Internet application on the social life ofAmerican urban communities. The Internet application not only increased the diversity ofcommunities, but also enhanced the participation of community organizations and got afar-reaching impact in interpersonal relationships. In the meantime, the Internet applicationpromoted the building of mutual assistance community and changed community familyrelationship and the way of community residents enjoying leisure and entertainment.The influence of the Internet application on American urban communities has formed itsown outstanding characteristics, which will provide some references for improving China’scommunity construction. To that end, the Chinese government will continue to carry outpeople-oriented scientific development and strive to build a socialist harmonious society.
