The value of human society as the ultimate goal should be a happy life. Education as a basic means to the ideal Garden of Eden must achieve this basic goal of human happiness. The author starts from the society’s mental state, reflecting on the core values of education in the light of students’weariness under the current volatile education reform and the reality of great educational input vs low talent output. Under the circumstance that modern education is fairly short-sighted and people are too practical with social values rather confusing, the author ponders upon the reconstruction of the core values of education as well as those of social ideal. Searching for the reconstruction of the national culture should also be the most important and fundamental subject as far as current education development in China is concerned. Only through radical reform can the specific educational activities achieve healthy development in the right direction. After all, a healthy development is the prerequisite of education prosperity.The article consists of four parts. Part one is on the thoughts aroused by realistic social problems. The author quotes the example of the tragedy of Little Yueyue and Foxconn employee suicides to analyze the mental condition of the society, trying to find out the internal reasons for poor education quality. The article analyzes the origin and hazards of the examination-oriented education and in the meanwhile points out three outstanding issues resulted from examination-oriented education:students are lack of independent personality, enthusiasm for learning and creativity. The personal qualities of the students are deteriorating. The social statuses of the teachers are lower than ever and the standard of social conduct declines. The author believes that there are four root causes accounting for the educational and social issues:China’s national conditions; Administrative interference with the inexperienced as management team; Exam-oriented education distorts the nature of education by producing standardized talents. Teachers concern more about efficiency than education itself. Under the circumstances that examination-oriented education will still exist for a certain period of time, the author elaborates on the following five aspects of how education should guide people to find happiness from the angles of social and education management team and teachers:Firstly, education requires the cooperation of the whole society. Carry forward the practice of respecting teachers. Form close contacts among school, families and society and step up the synergy of useful social resources. Secondly, building their career foundations by cultivating students personality. Thirdly, encourage students to think independently. Fourthly, encourage students to participate in social practices in order to achieve physical and mental healthiness. Fifthly, encourage students to enjoy life and art instead of assigning them endless homework.
