The Hui nationality has a relatively large population, their economic society andculture is more developed than the other minority and they believe in Islam. Huipeople are living throughout the country, the Hui population who live in towns andcities amount to4447.1thousand, accounting for45.3%of the total population of theHui nationality, because of a considerable proportion of the population, Hui living incities have caught the attention of the academic field. At the same time, ethnic identityand the relationship of ethnic groups are one of the most important research items inethnic study, so for Hui who inhabited in cities, their ethnic identity problem researchhas a profound meaning.Hui community in cities is an ethnic space with obvious boundary, under theeffect of relatively strict ethnic marriage system, Hui community becomes into a loosebut expandable kin group network connected to each other with huge affinalrelationship. Therefore, as an enclave in the city, spacial closure is mainly manifestedin the choice of spouse as marriage boundary. Hui communities have marked themarriage boundary and Hui express their own ethnic identity through strict ethnicmarriage. But as the Hui community in cities disintegrating, the intermarriagebetween Hui and Han has become a very common phenomenon. marriage boundarymelting does mean that ethnic identity of Hui has began to change. Ethnic identitycontains both stable and changeable component ranging from language, religiousbelief, custom and festival to identity presents different characteristics. This paperselects Jilin Hui as the research object, combined deep interviews with the relatedhistorical documents, aims to grasp at the condition of Hui ethnic identity and putforward the development to cultural consciousness as the premise.The first part of this article provides an overview significance of this researchand summery the present foreign and domestic relevant intermarriage and ethnic identity of different theories, providing a realistic and theoretical support. The secondpart of the article describes the characteristics of Hui community in cities, provides anoverview of the investigation of Hui population source, living status, and as anenclave, the function of culture, education, economy, and religion. The third part ofthe article describes separately from the language, religion, custom, festival andidentity of Hui nationality, the result come out that the Hui ethnic identity includesdifferent characteristics. The fourth part of this article conveys that the developmentof Hui is inseparable from cultural consciousness through the analysis of ethnicidentity condition, only if Hui get a wise cognition of their ethnic cultural that theycan survive and develop under the background of cultural vicissitudes.
