This thesis aims to explore the application of modern educational technology to English vocabulary teaching by studying strategies and case of English vocabulary teaching assisted by information technology, hoping its application in daily instructions will lay a solid foundation for English learners.In practice, vocabulary teaching is confronted with various of challenges. Even though conventional instruction methods did contribute much to English teaching and learning, the effect still needs to be improved.This paper explains the strategies and methods that can be applied to vocabulary teaching assisted by information technology.Applications of information technology to many subjects have seen great results, which are worthy of reference. In this paper, possibilities of applying information technology to daily vocabulary are discussed. Also, improvement of language skills and attitude is under discussion. This paper studies how students’ confidence and interest of vocabulary can be boosted, how they can participate in the learning process actively. So the research of information technology widely used in instructions of different subjects is analyzed, and its further assistance to English vocabulary teaching is studied. And the strategies as well as methods of vocabulary teaching sustained by information technology, such as multi-media technology and the Internet technology, is also under discussion. For instance, the paper discusses how BBS can be used for group discussion in vocabulary instruction process, E-mail for daily communication between teacher and students, PowerPoint for creative multi-media resources that cultivate learners’ knowledge and skills. Furthermore the use of micro-blog is also probed.A case of a teaching process is presented for further study of vocabulary teaching assisted by information technology. It reveals that, under the support of information technology, the efficiency of teaching and learning is promoted, the initiative of students is improved, and the after-class participation of students in communication and discussion on vocabulary learning also increases. The students gain more skills in the process, and improve their learning attitude. However, difficulties are seen when using information technology in vocabulary teaching. Due to different kinds of practical conditions, the application of information technology to daily vocabulary teaching is limited, so not every student benefits from this process. Thus, further study is needed when considering its practical use in daily instruction of vocabulary.All in all, introspection and prospect is made at the end. Flaws of this study are discussed and concept of further research is made for practical use of information technology assisted vocabulary teaching.
