As French educational thinker Edgar Darfur’s pointed out,“the illiteracy in thefuture are no longer illiterate people, but those who can not learn to learn”. In themodern era of rapid development, the ultimate goal of education of all countries is todevelop creative talents who have both strong independent lifelong learning abilityand communication skills. In order to realize this goal, scholars around the worldcarried out a series of explorations and researches, put forward different kinds ofeducational viewpoints. Among them, one of the main methods is how to effectivelytrain the learners’ ability of autonomous learning by strategy training in teachingpractice. Wang Duqin (2002) also thinks that fostering students’ metacognition is oneof the main channels to develop students’ learning autonomy. Autonomous learningplays a vital role in gradually developing learners’ ability of getting rid of students’dependence on teachers and classroom teaching in the future. The purpose of thisstudy was to explore the influence of metacognitive strategy training in the cultivationof the junior high school students’ English autonomous learning ability. The author reviewed the literature related. Two classes in Grade9at a middleschool in Huxian County,Shaanxi Province were selected as the research objects totake part in the teaching experiment. In this research, statistical software SPSS17.0was used to analyze the experimental data. The conclusion of this study was made onthe basis of statistical analysis and qualitative research. After the experiment, studentsin the experimental class generally developed their metacognitive strategy use leveland independent learning skills in different degrees. Many students were able to beindependent in effectively making study plans, monitoring learning process andevaluating the learning process. Finally, this thesis pointed out the revelations of theresearch on junior middle school English teaching, It also analyzed the defects existingin the research and suggestions for further research were proposed.
