A Study On The Thought Of Deng Xiaoping About The Image Of The Government

The image of government is the overall performance and objective effect generatedfrom government actual activities on the one hand, and the evaluation and attitude ofsocial masses towards the government on the other hand. The role of government imagein reflecting the ability of government’s ruling, improving the prestige, cohesion, andrallying power is irreplaceable. Therefore, from ancient time to this day, anygovernment attaches great importance to establish their own image, in order to have ahigh authority and credibility.Under the background of reformation and opening up, during the course of theconstruction of socialist modernization, the communist party’s second generation ofcollective leadership, with comrade Deng Xiaoping as its core, paid high attention to theestablishment of government image and had carried out difficult theoretical explorations,thus forming abundant connotation about the government image. Tightly revolvingaround the core problem of the government image, this paper has answered four majorproblems, that is “why the government may form such a rich knowledge about image inDeng Xiaoping era”,“what is the main content about it”,“by which ways to put it intopractice” and“how to comment about it”.Specifically speaking, this paper argues that the importance of image itself, thetheoretical cornerstone laid by Marxist classical writers, the new period, the highself-consciousness of comrade Deng Xiaoping, all of these constitute the originstogether. As to the main contents, l suggest that whether serving people whole-heartedlyor not is the criterion to judge the work and image of the government, giving priority toefficiency is the core content and distinctive characteristic, maintaining the centralauthority and being bold in exploitation and aggressiveness is the unique image of theindividual leader. Besides, we can regard reformation and opening up, independenceand dignity, peace and development all of these international new image as a showcaseand enlargement of the government image. On the issue of the way to shape up a goodimage, combining with the logic structure of government image systematically, thispaper mainly focuses on the great practice of reformation and opening up to findanswers, that is to say, from all aspects about reformation and opening up, politicalsystem reform, economic system reform, education and technology system reform, the military system reform, the conception of “one country, two system”,the strategy ofopening to outside world, to analysis the process of formation and development. Finally,standing on the height of the Marxist dialectical materialism and historical materialism,this article try to give a objective and dialectical review about the thought of DengXiaoping on the image of government, mainly from the status of government image, thevalue of image itself, and the pains and gains about practice three aspects to discuss anddraw helpful enlightenment on the building of Chinese contemporary governmentimage.
