On The Elderly Education Of Singapore

Population ageing is a world population development trend, Singapore as one ofthe four Asian Tigers also faced with the same question. Singapore promoted theconcept of active ageing and took the elderly education as one of the main strategy tocope with the issues which brought population ageing and help the elderly to live ameaningful life. The main strategies for Singapore to implement elderly education areprivately carried out, of which relies on project to create the Young At HeartCommunity College, cooperates with the SIM University to carry out the GSP andestablishes the first third-age college and the golden age college which based on thecommunity. The variety ways implementation and the positive impacts of the elderlyeducation start getting the recognition by more and more Singaporeans. AlthoughSingapore has made some achievements on the elderly education, it still faces somechallenges. It needs joint efforts of the whole society to explore a way of elderlyeducation which satisfied the most senior citizens of Singaporean.The thesis consists of four chapters. The first chapter analyses the risingbackground of elderly education from the population ageing status and developmenttrend, the economic, political and cultural of Singapore. The second chapter describesthe main security agencies which guarantee the implementation of elderly educationin Singapore. In the third chapter, taking several specific examples illustrates the mainways of elderly education implementation. In the last chapter, concluding successfulexperiences and analysis on the challenges of elderly education based on all thoseabove three parts of the paper.
