| The South China Sea issue is a hot issue in China’s neighboring,has important implications for China’s peripheral security. The UnitedStates has been trying to interfere in this issue to contain China. Sincethe Obama administration took office and put forward the strategiccenter east, South China Sea issue is an important weight in theUnited States to sow discord between China and neighboringcountries. This paper will sorting out the origin of South China Seaissue and the history of the evolution of American South China Seapolicy, analyze the historical roots of the South China Sea policy ofthe Obama administration, in order to identify the strategic responseto China’s initiatives. This paper argues that China should respond tothe following four aspects of the U.S. South China Sea policy: Firstly,china should try to promote the related countries in the South ChinaSea through peaceful negotiations to resolve the South China Seaissue. Secondly, china should promote negotiations with the countriesof the South China Sea and surrounding areas, but also activelyconsidering the factors of the big countries outside the region andpreventing the internationalization of the South China Sea issue.Again, china has to promote the balanced development of China’sown hard and soft power. Finally, china should promote cross-straitcooperation in the South China Sea issue. |
