Social Class Construct And Self-perceive Of Migrant Workers

With the rapid transmission of rural surplus labor from unban to the city, migrant workers have become a strong, unique and ignorable social class in Chinese society. This class has appeared significant and hierarchal polarization under the effect of industrial division system. As a renascent social class, its consciousness of construction, embodiment and obstacles in development process are important factors which directly affect the migrant workers’ development and trends in the future.Migrant workers continue to be concerned as academic focus in recent years, and many scholars focus on them as a class. Scholars consider that ideas that class consciousness of migrant workers is formatting and the idea that migrant workers class consciousness and action is in the interaction with each other.Most scholars recognized famers as a class which will form their own class consciousness.This paper response to the academic conclusions and perspectives, as the important part of the class of migrant workers——migrant workers elite groups for study. Using Interviews, non-participant observation and literature as research methods to investigate various dimensions and indicators of the migrant workers elite groups, in order to understand the consciousness and actions and to determine the sense of community conscious.In this base, we try to grasp the class consciousness of the contemporary migrant workers, found that elite group of Chinese migrant workers in the hierarchy is nor yet formed a level of significance of conscious awareness. In a word, the class consiciouness of migrant workers is only in a rudimentary bud. All of this try to response to the conclusions of the academic community on the class consciousness of migrant workers, which in theory and in practice on the development of policy and strategy of the peasant-workers learn from the people of migrant workers in the future to provide useful help.
