The AU Peace and Security Council, which was established in2002, is the first organizationdedicated to peace and security affairs on the African continent. Its establishment and the recentactions interpret that the African countries intends to end the conflict and war safeguard regionalsecurity and peace in Africa.The establishment of the AU Peace and Security Council demonstrates that the Africanregional conflict resolution mechanism is further improved. The AU Peace and Security Councilexperiences tremendous progress in solving the conflict compared with its predecessor,“theprevention, management, conflict resolution mechanisms”. It more clearly clarify its role in thesettlement of regional conflicts in Africa, giving more power to it. In addition, the AU Peace andSecurity Council actively took part in the conflict resolution and made a great contribution to theeasing of regional conflict. Among them, The peace-keeping missions in the Darfur region couldbe expected to be even more pronounced.The peace-keeping missions of the AU Peace and Security Council promote the peace andsecurity in the African region. However, the peacekeeping operations has also exposed manyshortcomings of the AU Peace and Security Council: lack of efficiency in peacekeeping; lack offinances; lack of capacity of the peacekeeping force. The AU Peace and Security Council is anincreasingly important role in the settlement of regional conflicts in Africa. In order to betterpromote African regional stability, the AU Peace and Security Council should not only strengthentheir own capacity-building, but also establish an appropriate relation with sovereign states, theUnited Nations and sub-regional organizations.
