Idioms play a very important roie in Chinese. The idiom is precise, easy to understand,vivid, subtle humor language characteristics, which makes it become a very important part ofteaching Chinese as a foreign language, but also become the key and difficult point of teachingChinese as a foreign language.Idioms teaching can stimulate students’ interest in learningChinese, increase the understanding of overseas students to Chinese culture, and improvestudents’ intercultural communicative competence. However,because of the different culturesbetween China and other countries, and idiom structure flexibility and semantic variability,whatseems easy for the Chinese has become the barrier for the foreigners to learn Chinese. Althoughscholars have made great achievements in the study of idioms, but most of these studies focus onthe Chinese idioms.There is little study which is done by combining the Chinese idioms withteaching Chinese as a foreign language.Based on the former studies, this thesis through the erroranalysis theory analysis the problems which exsit in idiom teaching and in the process oflanguage in use, and put forward some suggestions of Chinese idioms teaching.This thesis consists of four chapters:The first chapter is introduction,which explains the reasons and significance of idiom study,the study situations at home and abroad,and the content and the method of the study.The second chapter discusses the idioms and teaching Chinese as a foreign language. First,it discuss the position of idioms in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.Second, it discussthe significance of idioms in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.The third chapter is the bias case analysis of idioms in teaching Chinese as a foreignlanguage. First of all, it analyses the bias of students often appear in the idioms used processthrough examples of analysis., these errors include the syntactic errors, semantic errors andpragmatic errors,etc. Secondly, it analyzes the causes of these bias, these causes include thenative culture, the Chinese knowledge of having learned and learning strategies,etc.The fourth chapter according to the types and the reasons of the errors occurred, putsforward to several basic principles that should be followed in teaching Chinese as a foreignlanguage, and puts forward some suggestions used in teaching Chinese as a foreign language. The conclusion part makes a concise and comprehensive summary of this thesis, and putsforward the deficiency of the present research.
