Roland Emmerich Movie Narrative Research

With the rapid development of scientific and technical knowledge,Disaster films attractsthe attention of global audience for its scenes of shocking and strange characteristics.TheDisaster films mixes the art and technology together,it also play as the representative in creatingthe box office miracle in Hollywood.At the same time,seriously damaged to the environment inthe real world lead disaster occurred frequently.This phenomenon exerts the audience to payattention to the environmental awareness in the Disaster films.Among the Hollywood Disasterfilms, Roland Emmerrich`s films has the far-reaching impact on audience.In this article,theauthor takes the Roland Emmerrich`s films as the object to study,and uses the Narrativetheory,the Ecology theory,the Audience theory to analyse the characteristics of the specifictext.On the basis of analyzing the narrative characteristics,the author investigates the narrativetheme,the narrative way and the narrative strategy.This article is divided into three chapters:In the first chapter,analyse the narrative theme from the narrative point of view.Under thepremise of dividing Emmerrich`s films into the type of Disaster films,the author analyses thenarrative theme from three aspects:the narrative theme,the narrative characters and the culturalreflection of America.The author divides the narrative theme into four categories:the Man-madedisaster,the natural disasyer,the fear for the unknown and the rebuilding of the humansociety.Then,the author classify the narrative characters into two kinds:the hero and the rescuedpeple,the assist and the hindering people.At the last,the author analyses the cultural reflectionand the political criticism of America.The second chapter mainly analyses the films from the point of narrative way.First,theauthor talks about the viewpoint,and sums up two ways to use the viewpoint:OmniscientViewpoint,Limit Viewpoint,and the function of the Implied author.Second,discusses the narrativespace-time from two aspects:the limited time and the open space.The third chapter discusses the narrative strategy from the audience psychology point ofview. The chapter is divided into two parts.The first part discusses the narrative structure in thefilms.The second part analyse the Visual spectacle.This part involves the Audio-visual feast and the psychology of audience.
