Nowadays the United States becomes the largest film producer, and Hollywoodworks as the movie production plant in the United States. As serving for Americanculture and political policies, Hollywood also plays an important role in theculture expansion of the United States. The German epic, Nibelungenlied, isfacing such a puzzle: from the German world into the English world, the originalappearance of the German epic is hard to obtain recognition and consensus. Itis only accepted worldwide in the audio-visual paradigm of Hollywood, andironically at this time the epic is no longer that epic. It has been transferredinto the famous film product, Lord of the Rings of the United States. The largesteconomy which only have a pioneering history of200years with an anxious willingof constructing its own mythological system has begun its mythology robbing afterits one century colonization and territory expanding. Is there any problem aboutgrabbing others ancient myths into its own if any other rare resource can beplundered by this country? This thesis introduces the development of epic’sHollywoodization and probes into the aesthetic significance of it from diggingout the origin of the word “treasure”, combined with the analysis of thenature of literature and cinematographic art. Movie art is not isolated, for itcarries the political and ideological consciousness of its country under thestory and themes spectacle.The paper has probed into epics, operas, novels and movie texts in detail.And starting from the origin of epic it tried to discuss about the original culturesignificant and appearance of the epic prototype in the origin of Germany frommythology and narratology aspect; It carried the analysis of operas, the mostbrilliant original texts of the epic from narratology and prototype aspect; Andit observed and studied the movie Ring by German from film noumenon aspect. Amongthese three sections the original appearance of epics and the forms of Germannation are studied and presented. The thesis focuses on the analysis of the Hollywoodisation of epics: To tell how American took others myths as its own fromHollywood, the American spirit speaker; To talk about how the American ideologycan be infiltrated into movies without any trace during the process of recreatingmyths by Hollywood in order to push American culture among the world. It is fromthe film art identity aspect that analysis of Hollywood film the Magic Ring iscarried on, including the study and discussion of film visual-audio language,movie narrating and humane connotation.The conclusion of the paper came to the looting and remodeling by the U.S.cultural hegemony towards the other countries traditional myths. In the processof transformating the ancient text, the typical U.S. cultural ideology andpostmodern symptom completely subvert the epic, which is thoroughly changed intoits own national myth of historical discourse,"real" fabricate Americanhistorical myth. This conclusion suggest us that the one who has mastered mythdiscourse right would occupy the myth in the new culture territory. Under theAmerican dominant discourse hegemony, the myth identity of the ancient kingdomhas been challenged. How to deal with the ancient culture’s Hollywoodisationis a problem to all the other countries with their own myths.
