As a most popular in learning second language country, China has a huge native Chinese, whose1st language (L1) was Cantonese and whose2nd language (L2) was English. The English phonological processing skills have been a hot spot in western cognitive psychology and the field of linguistics research since1970s’ And It is also raised of the study of the Chinese learners phonological processing skills or the form processing skills which are due to the particularity of the Chinese characters by the influence of the agitation in recent years of our country. But the corresponding research about the L1of English study cognitive processing skills was less. As is known to all, English belongs to the typical alphabet writing. And Chinese although belonging to ideograms in despite of large amounts in the Chinese characters have the meaning of the table sound XiangXingZi present. Chinese and English in orthographic regularity also differ greatly. The difference of Chinese characters, led to the table sound function more bad, not as the English words contrast letters as direct spell. Therefore, Chinese phonological processing skills are not obvious and important as the English phonological processing skills. These two kinds of language processing method must be different as well. It also will reflect the different in native Chinese English learners learn English cognitive processing. So the research of English study students of Chinese mother tongue in situation of the cognitive processing skills present, will help find the role of phonological or glyph processing skills in learning the second language.It is based on the experimental study and questionnaire survey method combined. And it is used a preliminary investigate on cognitive processing skills in the freshman in learning English. Conclusion:Chinese students in the second language of the cognitive learning foreign language, acquisition and transfer phonological processing skills. But the dependence of phonological processing skills in the cognitive process is not high. Chinese students in the cognitive learning of the Second foreign language, also use the glyph processing skills. Two kinds of skills used at the same time in the most individual, but it did not rule out the possibility use of other cognitive processing skills.
