Either analyzed from literature or linguistics, image is both the smallest part of poetry and the most significant component. Through the researches on the poetry images of a poem, the emotions, styles, thoughts and other cultural background can be learned. Carrying out researches on images has been turned into a fundamental way of researches on literature works. During the studying process, all of the scholars studied the style and thoughts of poem from the starting point of content. The author consulted a number of books and found out that few researchers analyzed the poem from the view of image. The author firmly believed that image should be added more focus. Based on this, from four parts, this thesis use the image as a penetration point, take further studies on the connotations of frequent image appeared in the poem of Liu Kezhuang.Part One The images of flowersThe images of flowers have been frequent images, like peony, plum blossom, rosa rubus, chrysanthemum, etc. All these images have specific emotional connotations. First, the characteristics of Houcun Ci is describing the images of flowers dynamically and present an image as "blossom—flower falling", which contains the spirit of observing object, the peaceful attitude to life and emotional thoughts. Second, from the pen of Liu Keshena, different images of flowers refer to different historical and cultural connotations. By describing the images of flowers, in reality he expressed his obsession with a sense of feeling of worrying the nation and people.Part Two The images of personageThe images of personage have been used quite frequent and highly intensive in Houcun Ci, usually several images of personage in one poem. Here the author defines it as the images of personage because Liu Kezhuang held subjective feelings for the character’s words and deeds, either convergence or oppose. The fist section of this chapter reflects Liu’s thoughts from chronicle, the second section present Liu’s thoughts from Houcun Ci and compared the two and find the consistency, thus reach the situation of mutual coordination, the key point of the third section is describing himself from the image of a warrior and reflect the changes in the early phrase and later phrase. Besides, this section also evaluates the secluded feeling from multiple angles.Part Three The images of gray temples The images of gray temples in Houcun Ci can be divided into three categories. The first one reflects the topic of carefree sorrow. The second one reflects the sorrow for nation. The third one reflects his mourn for his wife. So here the divisions of the images of gray temples can reflect the multiple emotions of the poet.Part Four The images of craneThe images of crane have not appeared much in other poem. But can be easily found in Houcun Ci. Especially, with the images of "separated cranes" expressing the emotion between husband and wife, with the images of "soaring crane" expressing his own wishes.
