In The Theory Of Du Fu Shu Poetic Fame Consciousness And Beyond

The life of Chinese poet Du Fu was full of wanders and frustrations-He traveled a lot in his youth, and to recommend his own in middle age, he suffered untold hardships; even in his short time as a public servant, his heart remained filled with disappointment. Received a traditional Confucian education, he adhered to his ideal to become an official and bring the Confucianism to flourish. In his work, the idea of loving motherland, showing the human solicitude toward people and be loyal to the emperor almost can be explored everywhere so that the researchers after his era consider him as a typical Confucian. Du Fu is a fruitful poet and only his work can be read now is more than1,300, about more than430poets among which were composed in inner Sichuan, where Du Fu settled down more5years.If Du Fu’s poems composed around "The cataclysmic An Shi Rebellion" achieved the summit of realism, the composition in inner Sichuan is another summit after the translation of Du Fu’s consciousness in fame and reach. In inner Sichuan, Du Fu’s style become more inartificial and the intention of pursuit to fame and reach in his poem were less highlighted. With the development of district research, the achievements about Du Fu’s life in inner Sichuan are significant.In this paper the consciousness about fame and reach in Du Fu’s poems is studied and stated.In the preface, the feasibility and necessity is presented at the first. Then the implication of the fame and reach is further unearthed. Moreover, the research status about Du Fu’s poems in inner Sichuan is presented. Finally, the purpose and method in this paper are displayed.Three chapters are contained in this thesis. In the first chapter including two sections, Du Fu’s consciousness about fame and reach in inner Sichuan is explored. The first section present Du Fu’s consciousness about fame and reach before he immigrates to inner Sichuan. Overall, Du Fu is enthusiastic about fame and reach, even in his hard time in this period. The extension of his consciousness about fame and reach before he immigrates to inner Sichuan as well as the related behaviors, the eagerness to go back to the capital, the affection toward the motherland and the people, the attention towards the events at that time included, are discussed in the second section in this chapter.The second chapter emphasizes on the translation of Du Fu’s consciousness after he immigrates to inner Sichuan. The first section in this chapter mainly displays those behaviors implying his discard of the fame and reach in his life. Two aspects can illustrate that he had been beyond his pursuit to fame and reach to some extent in that period, say, the appreciation of scene in life transcending before and the less fanatical pursuit to fame and reach. The second part is also composed by two respects, in which the transcending consciousness in his poems created in his tour of Buddhist temple is discussed. Firstly,fact is disclosed-Du Fu adopted the Buddhist doctrine before he immigrates to inner Sichuan and he demonstrated profound understanding about Buddhism. Secondly, the Buddhist doctrine in his poem and the ideal entrusted to the Buddhism is discussed. All the two sections can justify the translation of Du Fu’s consciousness about fame and reach after he went to inner Sichuan.In the third chapter, some examples are listed and three sections are included in this chapter. In the first section, it’s present that Du Fu entrust Yan Wu who govern Sichuan at that time with his pursuit of fame and reach when he encountered war in inner Sichuan again. The second section shows Du Fu’s life and spiritual status when he served as Yan Wu’s adviser. The third part states that Du Fu resigned in that his translation in consciousness of fame and reach lead to Du Fu cannot get used to this life no more and finally transcend himself in the pursuit of fame and reach. Du Fu and Yan Wu were good friends and the communication between them can reflect properly the character and translation of Du Fu’s consciousness of fame and reach. This experience, from Du Fu’s pursuit of fame and reach, to finally resign, verifies Du Fu indifferently transcended fame and reach.
