George Crumb (1929—), an American unique composer in1960s and1970s, explores the field ofvision of modern American music creation and opens a fantastic realm of music. Orchestral work namedEchoes of Time and the River is a creative song full of experiment as well as a thought-provoking work. Heuses modern composing techniques to fuse the multicultural elements into the work and guides the human’svision to the ancient history and extends into the infinite future through the extension of time and space ofthe music and dramatic description.This article includes four chapters. Chapter one introduces the inclusiveness of the work. Composer’smusic concepts of diversification and inclusiveness are analyzed through the research of materials andsound collages in George Crumb’s works. Chapter two analyzes the time and space characteristics of thework. George Crumb gives the work development space of tone, melody and sound to reasonably deal withthe music in two latitude time and space to obtain the unlimited extension. Chapter three analyzes thetheatricality of the work. Composer deals with and arranges the music image and theme to get rich soundeffect to cause the emotion changes and conflict and reflect the strong theatricality. Chapter four analyzesthe complex society and multiple cultures as the background of formability of above music features tofurther understand the composer’s expectations of coexistence, harmony, spirit and attitude to better life.
