The relationship between anxiety and cognitive performance is one of the central issues in psychological field, which has been studied by many researchers. The processing efficiency theory, and its major recent development, the attentional control theory were put forward to account for the relationship between anxiety and cognitive performance.The present study used STAI, Form Y-Ⅱ developed by Spielberger, a negative affective priming task and a2-back working memory task to investigate the relationships among anxiety, negative affective priming and working memory in30middle school students. The results are summarized as follows:(1) The anxiety level was negatively correlated with inhibition of affective stimulus;(2) The reaction time to negative words were longer than positive words in the negative affective priming task;(3) There was no relations between anxiety and working memory, and no relations was found between inhibition of affective stimulus and working memory.The current study has certain values in enlightening and guiding the teaching activities of teachers, especially in reducing the anxiety level of the students.
