Demonstrative pronoun“Ge”,is frequently used in modern Chinese;meanwhile, some formats related to “Ge” are playing increasinglyimportant role in news stylistics and network language. The generalizeduse of “Ge” needs more comprehensive and detailed research.This thesis takes “Ge” as the subject of study. Through the searchingstatistics about a large number of corpuses as well as the systematicanalysis of some language facts, it uses the description of structuralismand the interpretation of functionalist, on the basis of the practical data,to have a further research of the nature and usage of “Ge”. Besides, itparticularly selects two special formats of “Ge” in stylistics and networklanguage as case studies, in order to show more comprehensivecapabilities and characteristics about the actual usage of “Ge”.This thesis is divided into five parts.Chapter I is the review part. It is divided into five parts, discussingfour problems about “Ge”, which is “The part of speech, meaning andetymology”,“Indicator function and collocation”,“Pragmatics” and“Research about some related forms of ‘Ge’”. By studying the researchresults of “Ge” from many scholars, we can have a roughunderstanding of the main problems of their research. On the basis oftheir research, this chapter gives some summarizes, and proposes someideas and opinions as well.Chapter Ⅱ is the ontology research of“Ge”. It is divided into threeparts, making an overall analysis of “Ge” from two aspects,“Themeaning and the part-of-speech ownership” and “The usage”. Thesecond part focuses on the collocation of “Ge” and nouns, as well as“Ge” and measure words. Combined with a large number of materialstatistics and the appropriate explanation,it shows the characteristicsof “Ge” in actual use. Chapter Ⅲ is the first part of the individual research. It selects acommon structure in news stylistics,“Ge Da+NP”, as an individualresearch of “Ge+NP” structure. The whole chapter is divided into fourparts, mainly focuses on “The characteristics and tie-in rule of thenouns”,“Syntactic function and semantic features” and “Structureformation process”. It not only compares the similarities and differencesbetween “Ge Da+NP” structure and the typical “Ge+NP” structure,but also puts forward a new view of the source of this structure.Chapter Ⅳ is the second part of the individual research. It selectsa new format in network language,“Ge Zhong+VP”, as an individualresearch of “Ge+Mesure word+NP” structure. The whole chapter isdivided into four parts, mainly focuses on “The diversely usage ofcollocation”,“Potential semantic change”,“The change in thestructure types and the nature of the composition”. Through theclassified analysis of the statistics of large quantities of corpus, it draws aclear usage of “Ge Zhong+VP” format, and has a preliminaryexploration of its nature.Chapter Ⅴ is the conclusion part. It is divided into two parts, that is,the conclusion of the research and arguments as well as someunsettled problems in this thesis.
