Carl Czerny (1791-1857) is an outstanding composer, pianist, andeducator of Austria. He composed over1000master music pieces.Among them, latest80sets of Etudes no doubt generated far-reachingimpacts to Modern piano education and piano performance. Those80sets of Etudes have been in use till now with high educational values. Asa student of Beethoven and a teacher of Liszt, Carl Czerny’s life acrossthe second half of the Classicism and the heyday of Romanticism. Hisetudes have an inextricably and traceable inheritance relationship withClassical and Romantic worksI proceed from reality, combined with teaching experience.Because of my concerns on the phenomenon of general neglect of lefthand in the process of piano teaching and practicing, I select left handtechniques in Czerny etude as my thesis study, clarifying the contentand value of left hand techniques in Czerny etudes; thinking about howto effectively improve the left hand skills; further exploring its importantrole in piano teaching and performance.In this paper, the main research approach is theoretical analysisand literature referencing.Author comprehensively collected Czernyetude information related to left hand technique, used the works of TheVienna Classical Period and Romantic Period as an example, analyzedwritten historical records and music works by using exampling, analyzing,quoting, summarizing and comparing methods. Combined with herperformance and teaching experiences, author summarized thecontribution of left hand technique in Czerny etude of piano teachingand performance and clarified its far reaching significance and impactto piano teaching and performance.
