“Zuo” and “You” are nouns of locality which represent another’sopposite side. These two words in Chinese are always combined by afixed structure “zuo X you Y”. In modern Chinese, the usage of thisstructure is not only flexible, but also the productivity is relatively high.We specially inspected the syntactic, semantic and pragmatic featuresof the structure “zuo X you Y”. At the same time, we attempted to usethe conceptual integration theory and the metaphor theory ofcognitive linguistics to illustrate the degree of integration and cognitiveprinciple, then explained the development and inner motivation of thestructure. The article is divided into the following sections:Chapter1: this chapter introduced the significance of the topic,the present research situation and existing problems, the proposedtheory and method to solve the problems and corpus sources.Chapter2: this chapter descripted and analysised the features andsyntactic function of the structure “zuo X you Y” from the synchroniclevel, then inspected the unique syntactic features of “zuo X you Y”when it as a predicate.Chapter3: this chapter inspected the semantic features andsemantic relations of “X、Y” in the structure of “zuo X you Y”, thesemantic virtual process of “zuo and you”, the overall meaning type ofthe structure, and analysed the effect of pragmatics and discoursefunction of the structure.Chapter4: this chapter divided the integration of the structure “zuoX you Y” with the use of conceptual integration theory, then explainedthe metaphor mechanism with the use of the metaphor theory ofcognitive linguistics.Chapter5: this chapter insepected the process and developmentmotivation of the structure “zuo X you Y” from the diachronic level. Chapter6: this chapter summarized the innovation andinadequacies of the entire paper.
