In The Tang Dynasty Jade Imagery And Its Cultural Implications

This paper is mainly about the imagery of jade, where the jade cultures in literary works are deeply reviewed and clearly explained from different points of view including archeology, geology, linguistics, classical philology, cultural anthropology. The author make relevantly detailed discussion and statement about the jade from the beauty of jade, jade and literature, the statistical analysis of the imagery of jade in Tang poetry, and the spiritual implication of the imagery of jade in Tang poetry.In the chapter ’the beauty of jade’, five aspects in sequence which include Jade and jade articles, The fairy tale of the jade, Courtesy of the jade, Virtue of the jade and With the name of jade are considered. A brief introduction to the history of jade is made, where the jade changes from decorates and supplies to the Fetish for sacrifice, then the symbol of good morality in the view of the Confucianism. In the chapter of ’Jade and literature’, an essential review on ’jade literature’ before Tang dynasty is made, moreover, some examples are given to analyze the connections between jade and Ancient Chinese Literature. In the chapter of ’The imagery of jade in Tang poetry’, the corresponding conclusion is reached through the analysis of ’jade words collection’ and ’the imagery of jade’ in ’The complete poetry of Tang Dynasty’. In the chapter of’The spiritual implication of the imagery of jade in Tang poetry’, the spiritual implication of the imagery of jade is deeply interpreted to conclude and analyze ’the appearances of jade’ in Tang poetry through four aspects:the description of women in Tang poetry, the aesthetic and wealthy notions of the people Tang Dynasty, Bustling Wonderland in capital and the frontier fortress and homeland.In short, if our traditional culture is about the culture of jade, this paper is able to expound and prove it from the aspects of Tang poetry and cultural anthropology.
