In The New Century Chinese Film Studies

In21st Century’s Chinese cinema, a group of feature films began to focus on the road trip, which have contemporary Chinese people’s journey experiences as their story mode in common, and gave voice to their opinions with characters’ acts and states of mind. Our research first extracts representative works from numerous Chinese films with plots of traveling, and then generalizes about Chinese Journey Films’ history with three certain periods. Also, a comparative study between Chinese journey films and western Road Movies is carried out from various perspectives as subject matter, style and theme study, we attempt to seek Chinese Journey Film’s aesthetic characteristic and its extraordinary value to Chinese cinema. Furthermore, the research analyzes cultural phenomenon encoded in these films, seeking to discover its cultural significance.
