Self Gaze Behind

My thesis aims to study the phenomena of self-photo-taking from different respects such as psychology, sociology, social economy, art theory and the ontology of photograph. The first chapter discusses the phenomenon of self-photo-taking and its causes and also analyzes the relation between self-portrait in terms of photography. From the section3, the author illustrates the original watching mechanism of the subversion of photography since the camera imaging mechanism brought about by the new mechanism, and finally argues that the new self-viewing system. Next, the article starts from the body psychology to investigate the core of self-photo-taking psychology. I proceed from the view of Adler, Jung, Kohut, Freud and other psychologists to find the key to human psychology behind the self-image. These psychological motivations in a certain level will become the spectacle world dominated by the relation between the man and the image. The chapter3is the center of this article. The author use the concept "Worship" from psychology in this part toward social and political economy, in particular, illustrates the production, economic system, consumption, exchange and distribution of the image taken by the camera in the spectacle world. In this process, our worship of the image makes the relation between people and society into some kind of slavery. At last, facing the grim reality of visual culture, the author hopes to answer the question what the responsibility of the contemporary art studies by the cases of a few self-photo-taking artist revealing to us the mission of the contemporary art of self-redemption and struggle.I try to reveal that self-photo-taking and the behavior of self-shot are not "simple and random" visual production, but the visual representation in a perplexed mechanism. From the social individual reason to the cultural necessity brought by the social attributes, all kinds of possibilities of the culture of self-photo-taking are appearing and arising. This thesis tries to establish an interdisciplinary, cross-cutting method to research and totally clean up all the questions behind the visual phenomena. In another point of view, facing to the cultural phenomena of self-photo-taking, this thesis analyses and explains how the contemporary arts deal with this, react with this visual production and shoulder the social value. In conclusion, I do not raise my hope too much on my thesis to get a final judgment, but display some methods and possibilities. And I hope I could do my research along this train of thoughts.
