| There is a specific sentence pattern “gei+O1+O2†in the modernChinese, e.g.“Gei wo yi zhi bi(给我一支笔)†and “gei wo yi bei shui (给我一æ¯æ°´)â€. In this paper, O1is restricted to “wo(我)â€, and through theclassification of O2, we divide “gei+O1+O2†into three kinds ofconstructions that are associated with inheritance, labeled:“geiwo1+XP1â€â€œgeiwo2+XP2â€â€œgeiwo3+XP3â€. This paper discusses the creationmechanism and motivation of the sentence pattern on the basis of aninvestigation into some features of each sentence pattern. Furthermoreit also discusses the existential justification and inheritance among thethree sentence patterns.Firstly, we make a comparatively detailed investigation into thissentence pattern in order to reveal the syntactic and semanticcharacteristics of “XP†and each sentence pattern itself as a whole byusing descriptive methods of structuralism, and the interactivitybetween “XP†and “geiwo+XPâ€.Secondly, through the investigation of all the components of thepattern“wo(我)â€â€œge(i给)â€and“XPâ€, it thinks that with“XPâ€changingfrom the entities to the events of the extension,“gei(给)†is changedfrom the verb into preposition as well, which motivates the syntacticand semantic of “wo(我)†changes from “a recipient of the entityâ€to “actions of objects†and into a discourse marker “geiwo(给我)â€finally, for highlighting the subjective will.Thirdly, we attempt to find a correlation congnitive explanationamong the three patterns, and it also thinks that there is a natural andobvious correlation among them on the aspects of the form andsemantic derivatives which make them inherited from the prototypeconstrucion. |
