| Shanxi province was one of the most significant Buddhism well-developed city in Sui and Tang Dynasty. The belief of Buddhism was always one of the most important part of the local beliefs in Shanxi province since it first arrived at this land to the Sui and Tang Dynasty, and it influenced every aspects of Shanxi province deeply. So far, the scholars in our nation haven’t done any research methodically about Buddhism of Shanxi province, especially in textual criticism of the monks. The papers and the monographs on the textual criticism of the monks in Shanxi province is still blank now in our country. The activities of the monks as essential part of the development of Buddhism history can help us learn much about the development of Buddhism easily.This paper will give you the introduction on the monks who was born in Shanxi province in Sui and Tang Dynasty and the monks who arrived at Shanxi province in Sui and Tang Dynasty. The second chapter of this paper will select seven monks named Kuiji, Zhihui, Xuanjian, Jingyuan, Daoji, Daohong and Linggan who was famous and relevant to Shanxi province, except Kuiji had been in Shanxi province in Sui and Tang Dynasty, the other six monks was all born in Shanxi province in Sui and Tang Dynasty. In the light of different records in different literatures about their years of birth and death and what time did they take part in the translation job of The Buddhist Scripture, according to the objective fact, this paper will speculate boldly and put forward which year Kuiji was born and dead and so on. The next third chapter will list a table in the form of the name of the monks, the years of birth and death, the place of birth and the life introduction. Then the third chapter will explain the overall situation of the monks who was born in Shanxi province in Sui and Tang Dynasty in detail. The last fourth chapter will list another table in the form of the name of the monks, the years of birth and death, the place of birth and the main activities in Shanxi province in Sui and Tang Dynasty. After that, the last chapter will explain the overall situation of the monks who had been in Shanxi province in Sui and Tang Dynasty. According to the tables in the third and fourth chapter, this paper can summary the distribution feature of the monks who was born in Shanxi province in Sui and Tang Dynasty and some features of the monks who came to Shanxi province in Sui and Tang Dynasty respectively. |
