Language has long been considered to be conventional in our daily life. As a result,we seldom ask ourselves why the symbols of language takes on a certain form, but notothers, and why some idioms and proverbs have fixed internal structures that can not bechanged. In my opinion, these questions can be explained through the theory ofsimplification of sound pattern, which was explored in this passage from the generalanthropological linguistic perspective, with the Chinese idioms as the object of study. The acoustic experiments of these typical Chinese idioms were done with the help ofpraat software, thus some physical properties of the speech sound that can’t be measuredeasily can be quantified scientifically and objectively. In this way, the underlyingreasons of language conventions were explored, and the daily linguistic phenomenonthat we usually ignore were investigated. |
