The Flowers In Work Of Art

"Flower" has be accompanied with so many magnificent implications along the human culture string, as it was the embodiment of beauty, the signifier of wonderful thing, the portrait of graceful soul. Its blooming recalled the energy of youth. And its life cycle also intimated the sentiment of human life. The thesis started from reading the flower motif in human art oeuvre, traced the historical origins of the flower paintings, and searched for the profound implications of flowers behind the paintings.The thesis was composed of three chapters. In the first chapter, I described the different artistic style of flower painting between east and west, and which was because of the different perception between the them. By comparing their culture contexts, aesthetics, cultural characters, symbolic system, metaphors and significant cultural implications, we could clarify the pictorial information of flower in deferent culture. In the second chapter, I figured out the metaphor that female artists had a special interest in the motif of flower. By analyzing the psychological characteristics and social attributes of some east and west female artists who were famous of their flower painting, I explored the unique characteristics of female art work. In the last chapter, I examined my own work-slower"-from the view of evolutionary theory, social psychological study, women study and the perception of life value.
