China has the good reputation of ‘the country of etiquette’ for a long time. Etiquette is thecore of Chinese traditional culture and has exerted important and far-reaching influence totraditional dynasties behind Zhou. Zhou dynasty is the fundamental and emerging stage forChinese Etiquette and Music civilization and the ‘axes period’ of the Chinese culturaldevelopment. In Zhou dynasty, aristocracy usually thought highly of Etiquette, which was thenecessity of the social political life and common life at that time and the tools and criterion forbearing oneself. After being one of the Five Classics in Han dynasty, Ceremonia Etiquettebegan to occupy more important position and produced more profound and lasting influence.Guan Etiquette, as the beginning of Etiquette and the important good event, was valued byaristocracy and had important significance for people`social life at that time. Guan Etiquette,as the beginning of Etiquette, was studied by lots of ancient scholars, who had writteninnumerable works. But the past research mainly focused on annotations and interpretation, short of the culturaldeep connotation. From modern times on, the application of the western theory and methodshas provided wide room for the research of ancient history, concluding ancient Etiquette. GuanEtiquette is a solemn and manifold ceremony, and in these rites, the most central and importanttwo cites are Three-time wearing hats and Getting Zi. Guan Etiquette in Zhou dynasty, relatively to the adult ceremonies of other nations, paid more attention to the educationalsignificance for adults and thought more highly of the moral attainments, which could let theadults deeply realize the huge changes in clan roles and social relations and make them beaware of their changes in social roles and taking on social responsibilities as soon as possible.Three-time wearing hats rite in Zhou dynasty was an important procedure and symbol forparticipators stepping into the adult stage. In the three-time wearing hats rite, black-cloth hatwas the first stage, fur-hat the second, and sparrow-hat the third, which reflected the statussequences from low to high. More-time wearing hats let the participators know the ambitionclearly. Three-time wearing hats had great significance to the cultivation of participators`morality and to the arousal of their adult-consciousness. Getting Zi originated from old adultceremony, where their adult names were given by primitive societies and tribes. In thatceremony, the most important significance for Getting Zi was the symbol meaning, whichsymbolized they aggregated into aristocracy with changes in identities and roles. From then on,they could rule people, participate in military actions, sacrifice for their ancestors, and marry. Therefore, from ancient times to Zhou dynasty, this kind of symbol meaning was continuouswithout interrupt. Although there were some changes in concrete rites, the inner symbolmeaning did not change at all, which made adult ceremony very popular for a particularly longtime. Guan Etiquette of Zhou dynasty is an important and good mirror for our today society, especially in the moral education and self consciousness in grown-up.
