Ability emotional intelligence reviews emotional intelligence as a new, uniqueform of intelligence, which receives wide attention in academic circles at home andabroad. Many foreign scholars used MSCEIT which was established by Mayer andSalovey to measure and research emotional intelligence, and achieved considerableresults. In this study, after reading lots of domestic and foreign literatures, the writerestablished an ability emotional intelligence test, examined its reliability and validity,and further explored whether the ability emotional intelligence could predict theinterpersonal relationships, academic performance significantly as an independentprediction source, even after controlling the influence of personality factors. Thisstudy selected the students of first middle school in Cao county as the subjects,measured the emotional intelligence, interpersonal relationships and personality traitsof the students by questionnaire, and used the SPSS16.0 to process data. Afteranalysis, the results were as follow:(1) The established ability emotional intelligence test had good reliability andvalidity. The factor analysis showed that the test included four main factors: the abilityof identifying and assessing emotions, the ability of promoting thinking with emotions(the ability of using emotions), the ability of understanding and reasoning emotions,the ability of managing emotions.(2)Neither the scores of the four sub-tests nor the scores of the whole test ofemotional intelligence were different among grades, but there were significant genderdifferences. Girls’scores were generally higher than boys’.(3)The score of interpersonal relationships scale didn’t have significantdifferences among different genders and grades. The average score of all subjects was10.59, belonging to the degree of containing some interpersonal problems.(4)There were significant correlations between the score of interpersonalrelationships and the scores of emotional management subtest, the total test ofemotional intelligence, extraversion, agreeableness, caution, openness, emotionality and personality inventory.(5)The ability of managing emotions could predict the interpersonal relationshipssignificantly, even in the case of controlling the personality factors. This meant thatemotional intelligence could be viewed as an independent predictor to forecastsubjects’interpersonal relations.(6)There were significant correlations between Chinese achievements and thescores of the subtest of using emotions, understanding emotions, the emotionalintelligence test, and cautious trait. As well as the English achievements correlatedwith the subtest of using emotions, the test of emotional intelligence, agreeablepersonality.(7)The total test of emotional intelligence could predict Chinese achievementsignificantly, even if controlling personality factors. Similarly, the subtest of usingemotions could predict English achievement significantly, even after controllingpersonality factors. This suggested that emotional intelligence can be viewed as anindependent predictor to predict the academic achievements.
