This thesis is trying to expose the necessary dimension of interpersonal ism with the ethical meaning in Kant’s ethics by research the conception of Kingdom of Ends. The thread of argument follows by first establishing the analytical framework based on normative content and moral point through textual analysis of Groundwork for the Metaphysics of Morals. Based on this dual framework, I will further explore the limitations of Formula of Universal Law and its connection with ethical individualism. Thus, the approach of overcoming the limitations of Formula of Universal Law will involve the following question:how to understand the connections between the three different representations of Categorical Imperative. In this way, the discussion could be turned to Formula of Humanity and Formula of Autonomy (Formula of Kingdom of Ends), and in what way can these formulas supplement the content of Formula of Universal Law and deepen its moral point as well. This thesis also tries to show that the above supplement and deepening result in the establishment of Autonomy as the core of Kant’s ethics. Consequently, the Kingdom of Ends becomes not only the most complete representation of morality with regarding moral point but also has the potential to provide normative content. The fifth chapter will concern the necessity of the dimension of interpersonal ism in the principle of Kingdom of Ends. Based on all the analysis and arguments above, this thesis will prove the importance of Kingdom of Ends for understanding Kant’s ethical thought, and show how Kingdom of Ends has acquired the ethical meaning by providing normative content and transcending the ethical individualism.
