Reading is the major way to input language materials for non-English majors whenthey learn English. Many students spend a lot of time and energy on reading but theirreading abilities are not improved. The thesis was based on domestic and internationalresearches in the field of learning styles, learning strategies and English reading.Themethods of literature analysis, questionnaire investigations (including questionnairesdesigned by Oxford and Xiao Dejun) were adopted in this thesis. We explored the learningstyle and English reading strategies together and used126students as the sample, so thatwe could know how the non-English majors in different learning styles used Englishreading strategies and their structures of reading strategies in each dimension. This researchfirstly divided students into different groups by their learning styles. Then the differencesbetween each group were analyzed and compared. At last, the following conclusions weredrawn through statistics and analysis:The frequency of prediction strategy, vocabulary strategy, skimming and scanningstrategy used by contemporary non-English majors was not very high. It indicated thatnon-English majors lacked the awareness of using strategies when they read and they didnot often use these strategies in practice.Meanwhile, the tendency of using these threestrategies were different according to different learning styles. Therefore,it was quitenecessary to strengthen the strategy training for non-English majors based on theirdifferent learning styles.
