Controlling inflammatory symptoms, preventing joint destructions, maintaining normal function are the important objectives of RA treatment.Looking around the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) historical evolution, there are some primary ideas about bone theory in the Spring and Autumn Period, but most ideas emphasize on orthopedics. The internal medicine of bone and joint is rarely mentioned.TCM theory holds that kidney deficiency is the primary etiology and pathogcnesis of bone destruction. With the development of science, technology and Traditional Chinese Medicine, syndrome of obstruetion of dampness-heat and blood stasis accounts for pathogenesis of RA characteristics during active period.From2007to2009,our department in Guanganmen Hospital performed a randomized multicenter research. It carried out Qingrehuoxue(QRHX) therapy could improve patients’ function of joints and decrease disease activities. After that. Zhou XY found that QRHX decoction has a potential part in keeping joints from bony destruction in1year period through hand X-ray and Sharp scores. In2011,Luo CG carried the research about the difference of Sharp scores between patients who are insistently treated by QRHX decoction and methotrexate (MTX) in52weeks treat period and104weeks period.The research adopts an opened followed-up method. The patients are separated into two groups. One is QRHX therapy group (15patients), the other is QRHX decoction plus MTX group (16patients). All of them persist in the original treatment for3years and all the hand X-rays are qualified for Sharp scores. The Sharp score of the hands, efficacy of the syndrome, disease activity, laboratory index, the change of life quality of the QRHX therapy group are assessed. The results are compared with QRHX decoction plus MTX group. The results are following:1.QRHX therapy slows down the progression of bone destruction in RA patients in long term treatment.2.In long term QR1IX therapy treatment reachs ACR20.50.70in a high score.3.QRHX therapy can decrease the RA disease activity in long term treatment.4.QRHX therapy improves the quality of life through the long term treatment.
