Zhang Jiebin Differentiation Depressive Thought Research

The theory of Chinese medicine is rooted in the fertile soil of Chinese traditional culture,which is profound, deep-rooted, flourish, and its unique ideological and dialectical structure, the ways of following the laws of nature and living in moderation is a distant source and a long stream of long standing and well established. During the progress of the inheritance and development of the theory of Chinese medicine, it shows a trend with thought contend and flourishing, especially in the process of the development of depression discussed with the theory of Chinese medicine, everyone thinks in his way. In the history of the development of depression syndrome, Zhang Jingyue’s depression treatment system as the sign of the basic completion of the depression theory system,has an important position, and it promotes the depression theory to get into a new stage of development. Zhang Jiebin’backgroud of times makes his depression theory have historic significance as the connecting link between what comes before and what goes after. Zhang Jiebin’s academic thought is abundant in content and multi-characteristics, and the feature of his depression theory gives full expression to his expert at yixue, idealist philosophy, taosim and the art of war and so on and to be flexible in what he knows. So, we can learn the whole picture of Zhang Jiebin’s academic thingking from his idea of depression syndrome. The Late Ming Dynasty, when Zhang lived in, is a unique period in Chinese history and has a distinctive characteristic, and to a certain extent, the environment affected Zhang’s life experience, furthermore, effected his medical ideas. By contrast, the core characteristic of these ideas also reflected in depression syndrome. Therefore, it is necessary to systematically approach Zhang Jiebin’s depression treatment thought, analyze and discuss his depression treatment thought in the history background, in order to clear the theoretical system and clinical applications of Zhang Jiebin’s depression treatment thought and provide a reference for the literature search and current therapy of depression syndrome.In Chinese medicine,"Yu" first appeared in "the Yellow Emperor""SuWen·ZhiZhenYaoDaLun" recorded "obstruction of air flow due to pulmonary disorder" and the notation wrote "Yu means run forced""SuWen·LiuYuanZhengJiDaLun" elaborated the five types of depression, which is the rationale of depression syndrome. Then after the breakthrough and development of Song, Jin and Yuan, the depression theory was gradually improved. At Ming, Zhang Jiebin revised, noted and analyzed the ancient books and records on the basis of the relative theory in "the Yellow Emperor", combined with his own clinical experience and fund of knowledge and merging with Confucian school of idealist philosophy and the thought of art of war. He expounded his personal point and inherited the theory about depression of people of former times. In the meantime, Zhang Jiebin had a pioneering development of the depression theory before, especially on the depression treatment thought of Zhu Danxi. Zhang Jiebin put forward his unique thought of depression syndrome treatment, opening a new road of the study on depression syndrome, succeeding the essence of previous doctors’ideas and enlightening a new page of the age to come.Zhang Jiebin believed that all diseases can have concurrent depression syndrome. Compared with previous people who regarded Yu as a pathogenesis, Zhang Jiebin had a more comprehensive understanding of the depression syndrome from many aspects like physiology, pathology and therapeutic tool and etc. He told the difference between "the depression from five kinds of elements" and "the depression from emotion disorder" for the first time, and spun off the depression caused by emotions from confused concept of depression syndrome, emphasizing the important position of emotional upset. Zhang Jiebin’s thought expanded the scope of the depression syndrome and the concept of depression is more specific. In"Systematic Compilation of Internal Classic", Zhang Jiebin pointed out that there were eight types of people’s emotion, including happiness, anger, worry, thingking, sadness, fear, panic and fear,"besides five emotions, there are three". Zhang Jiebin descanted the pathogenesis, symptom and treatment method of every type of emotion pathopoiesis. Otherwise, Zhang Jiebin explain depression from physiological aspect at first time, criticizing Liu Wansu and Zhu Danxi’s point of "five emotions producing fire, emphasizing emotional activity is a normal physiological activity, coexisting with people’s life. Zhang Jiebin divided depression syndrome into "depression caused by diseases" and "diseases caused by depression", and the latter namely depression caused by emotions, according to the etiologic factor,which can be classified as reged stagnation, epressed stagnation and melancholy. The Dialectical therapy of three types of emotion caused depression had been discussed in detail:analyzing their location pathogenesis, symptome, prognosis and Herbal Prescription with the guide of deficiency and excess. Concerning the diagnosis of depression, Zhang Jiebin take pulse feeling as a more important method, and gave an opinion that the depression syndrome exists as long as the pulse felt unnormal. In terms of treatment, the greatest feature of Zhang Jiebin’s thought are treating depression from the view of deficiency and gave weight to psychological treatment. The rationale of treating depression from the view of deficiency is "YANG being not overabundant and YIN being often deficient", which represents the core of Zhang’s medical thought. Ginseng, rehmannia, aconite and licorice are used eternally to support Yang and Yin. checking one emotion with another, as an important adjunctive therapy method, was mentioned many times in Zhang’s books, which embodies the thought of harmony of body and mind.This dissertation, starting from the life of Zhang Jiebin and the characteristics of historical background, taking literature as the main method, analysis carefully Zhang Jiebin’s theory and treatment of depression syndrome, so that we can find the relationship and origin and explain Zhang Jiebin’s academic thought from a new perspective. This paper Systematically summarizes the Zhang Jiebin’s characteristics of the depression treatment theory to guide the clinical diagnosis.
