Aquiculture is one of the mainstay industries in the agriculture. With the increments of species and production of aquiculture in recent years, more space and better condition are provided to the research and application of computer monitoring system. Future aquiculture aims at high survival rate and high quality, and the precondition for all this is keeping the stability of water quality. The water quality parameters such as temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, and turbidity should be received in time. But the traditional detection methods couldn’t receive these parameters in real-time and have low reliability. What’s more, these methods cost too much. So the design of a reliable water quality monitoring system is of great significance for the development of aquiculture.According to the basic theories of wireless sensor network and embedded system, a water quality monitoring system based on ARM in aquiculture is proposed. This system not only can complete data collection and transmission, but also provides interface for real-time display and history inquiry. With the help of this system, users can know the water quality parameters such as temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH. and turbidity of monitored waters.In this paper, the overall design scheme of this system is presented and the selected hardware and software of the system are analyzed and designed in detail. The wireless sensor node used low-power MSP430single-chip and smart RF chip CC2420, and the key program flow and some source codes are given in this paper. The Man-Machine interface depends on TQ2440developing board, which takes Linux-2.6.30.4as the operating system. The SQLite database and interface are designed based on Linux of PC and TQ2440. The key steps of transplantation of database and interface design are given in this paper. Finally this system can realize the following functions:real-time data storage, real-time data inquiry, history data inquiry.Compared to the traditional methods, the system of this paper provided possible methods for solving distributed monitoring and many measurement positions, and the accuracy of data is increased. The system is easy to built, and can be applied on other water quality monitoring occasion after expanding.
