Wireless or contactless charging technology is a new type of energy transmission technology. Contrast to traditional electrical transmission, which could only be delivered by wires or cables, wireless charging technology has convenient and safe advantages. As a main method of wireless charging, inductively coupled power transfer (ICPT) system can transfer electricity power from the power transmission side to the power receiving side in a wireless way. However, the lower energy transmission efficiency of ICPT has restricted its application and development. Improvement of coupling efficiency of the energy coupling coefficient between the mutual inductance coils has been the research focus of ICPT. This dissertation focuses on the loosely coupled transformer structure, studies the influence of the coupling coefficient, and designs a novel coil structure to obtain uniform distribution of the magnetic field strength. The main work of the paper arrangement is as follows:Firstly, the development and existing wireless charging technology is overviewed. Other methods of wireless charging are also compared. Furthermore, the main work of this paper is summarized.Secondly, electromagnetic theory of the electromagnetic induction coupling and the circuit model of transformer are introduced.Thirdly, by use of electromagnetic analysis software’Maxwell’, the transformer structure effect on the loosely coupled transformer coupling coefficient, the self-inductance, and mutual inductance are simulated.Fourthly, a novel contactless charging platform is introduced and designed.Fifthly, the whole dissertation is summarized and the tasks for the future are presented.
