Overhead cranes are a type of lifting equipment which hung with materials,which are used widely in workshop, warehouse, ect. Because the cranes haveadvantages that aloft working range is larger, ect, it have played a veryimportant role in the development of modern industrial production and got greatdevelopment. The travel mechanism is a part of the overhead cranes, whichplays a very important role in handing goods and adjusting the position of theOverhead cranes to the right place.General purpose Overhead cranes mainly include Overhead crane withhook, Overhead crane with grab, Overhead crane with magnet,2-purposeOverhead crane,3-purpose Overhead crane.The lifting weights are from3.2t to320t, which are already standardized, serialized.Modular and parametric design technology have matured, and are widelyused, there have been successful paradigm. In order to adapt to the developmentof the market development, the modular and parametric design of the overheadcranes have been imperative.The travel mechanism has been designed by modular and parametricmethod in this paper. The"Three dimensional parametric design system of travelmechanism" has been developed. First of all, initial parameters have been givento design the institutions of the gear of the travel mechanism, such as the ratedweight, the weight of the hoist, the level of the mechanism, ect. Secondly, thetravel mechanism has been designed by modular method. Make sure that eachmodule has the feature of independent function and convenience. Then,in theparametric aspects, this paper is based on parameterized technology driven bydimension.SolidWorks is called by visual basic6.0, realizing automaticmodeling and automatic assembly of the parts and components. And using thetechnology of ADO read access database to gain the needed data.This system realized the function of the selection、 checking、 threedimensional parametric modeling and automatic assembly of the parts andcomponents in the travel mechanism, raising the efficiency and reducing the cost in the design.
