In the LED lamps industry, current LED lamp lifetime prediction methodology is only to leverage LED’s lifetime, which is not accurate. As a whole system, lifetime of LED lamps is defined by the combination result of a lot of factors. Among all the factors, the most important ones are not only the LED itself, but also the solder joint and electrical components.This thesis has selected product A which is one of LED lamp products from author’s company as the experiment target, to study on the relationship between the lifetime and product structure. Product A has already finished the new product development and released to market which helps to get enough design information and experiment results. During the research, author analyzed the failure mode of product’s solder joint, driver and LED, and also the lifetime prediction methodology accordingly. Base on the analysis result, it is described in the thesis that solder joint, LED and Al cap in driver are key contributors to the LED lamp’s lifetime, and author also summarized formulas to use for lifetime prediction calculation. To prove the point, this thesis purposely designed lifetime experiment and performed lifetime tests. Through the comparison between lifetime prediction and lifetime test result, it is demonstrated that the improved methodology is reasonable and traditional lifetime prediction method is not accurate enough for current LED lamp design which need to be improved. With this result, it provided positive feedback for the definition of LED lamp’s lifetime prediction standard in future.As the LED lamp’s mechanical structure getting more and more complex, it is obviously that traditional lifetime prediction methodology of LED lamps is already out of date. With the situation that the marketing of LED lamps become bigger and bigger, the competition of this market is also getting more and more critical. It is necessary for the LED lamp manufactures to make correct lifetime prediction for their products. At the same time, with accurate lifetime prediction, it is much easier to explore the weakness of the product design and helps with the improvement of design concept, thus design for more reliable products to help the manufactures build higher competence and reputation in the LED lamp market.
