Based on the description of serious situation in casing damage, the methods and research means of the problem was raised. In the principle of ultrasonic imaging technology, the ultrasonic’s characteristics and generation mechanism was introduced firstly, and then described the principle of various realizing methods for image detection, at last, introduced the composition of imaging system that based on ultrasonic echo detection methods. The paper was divided into two parts in the instrument design, namely the hardware circuit design and software simulation, which was also main research point.Hardware mainly designed the underground instrument’s electronic circuit, including power supply suitable for different chips, ultrasonic transmit circuit, filter circuit, A/D conversion circuit, and the clock circuit, reset circuit, external extended memory circuit, and communication interface circuit which based on digital signal processor TMS320VC5509A produced by TI company. Software mainly realized the detected ultrasonic signal’s analog imaging by simulation in MATLAB, and resulted in real-time image which can see the casing damage parts intuitively and clearly, so it has important significance for the analysis and prediction of the casing damage’s types and life.This paper proposes to use the MATLAB platform on the ultrasonic echo signals,4D imaging processing methods, the method realizes the collected signals timely imaging, can not only save the collected all the data, but also for each part of the image reproduction, the image can view each specific point values at home and abroad, the instrument has a more intuitive and more efficient imaging display effect.With the development of modern life, the dependence degree of oil and gas resources is increasingly great, rational and efficient mining, monitoring and judging the status of the oil Wells timely is very important, so casing inspection tools based on ultrasonic imaging technology will more and more important, it has the advantages of no damage to human body, high precision, imaging clearly, so will be accepted and used by more and more petroleum units.
