China is a large country with complex terrains. There are numerous natural forms or artificial excavations with high and steep slope. It is one of the countries with serious landslide and debris flow geological hazards. Recent years, especially after the "5.12" earthquake, all kinds of geological disasters in mountainous areas have taken place so frequently that China’s economic construction and people’s lives and property have been seriously affected. With the rapid development of modernization, large numbers of high-rise buildings, water conservancy and hydropower facilities, mines, ports, highways, railways and energy projects have been under construction. The constructions of these projects are often constructed in a complex geological environment conditions, which require many excavations of a variety of high and steep slope. The stability of these slopes directly determines the success of these constructions, which affects the investment of construction projects and safe operation. In this paper, a slide in Yibin city, Sichuan province, is considered as the research project. A great mass of data is collected with detailed geology surveys, the characteristics of the landslide area are also identified, such as the natural and geographical conditions, hydrogeology geological conditions, engineering geological conditions and so on, by drilling, trenching and other means. Detailed study is made on the deformation characteristic, formation of the landslide time, formation mechanism, failure modes and its stability and so on. Reviews concluded that the landslide is in stable state basically in natural conditions, and is in understable state in the rainstorm conditions. And through the analysis of the influence factors and sensitivity in the landslide area, we conclude that the factors which affect stability of the landslide are stratigraphic lithology, rainfall and human engineering activities. Among these factors, rainfall and human activities are the causes of the deformation damage or even the most important factor of instability. On the basis of the above analysis, the author calculated the study area, using strength reduction method and large-scale finite element analysis software-ABAQUS, establish geom-echanical model and analyze the characteristics and variation of plastic deformation, which got the result agreeing well with the engineering practice. Finally, according to the analysis result, proposed control scheme.
