| The study of intercultural adaptation is a very important component in the field of intercultural communication. Up to now, research in this area has mainly focused on three aspects:1) the general models or patterns of intercultural adaptation;2) the adaptation processes of different groups of people in various conditions,3) the analysis and discussion of the factors that may influence the outcomes of people’s adaptation. These researches have their limits, because their subjects are primarily international students, migrants and enterprise expatriates. In reality, subject scope could be far beyond these three groups, and problems concerned could be multi-facets. The present paper intends to explore the adaptation process of Chinese employees in multinational corporations. With China entering WTO and economical globalization, there is an increasing number of Chinese employees working in multinational corporations in China. They have encountered a lot of problems in the process of intercultural adaptation, and solution to these problems deserves the attention of researchers. Some Chinese scholars have engaged themselves in this endeavor and their research work has paved the way for the present paper.This paper adopts the methods of questionnaire and interview to identify the problems of intercultural adaptation of Chinese employees in multinational corporations in China, namely language competence, anxiety in communication, conflict management and compliance with corporate culture. Based on related theories such as Kim’s Intercultural Transformation Model and Anderson’s Dialectical Model, it summarizes the problems, discusses certain solutions and points out some improvements that could be made in future researches.Since the present study will try to explore the problems in the intercultural adaptation process in Chinese milieu, particularly concerning Chinese employees in multinational corporations, it will hopefully be an important supplement to the previous researches Moreover, the author sincerely expects that this study can provide Chinese employees with some helpful and insightful guidance to handle practical problems. |
