Development And Changes In The Meaning Of High-frequency Chinese Morpheme "Xiao"

This article researchs high-frequency Chinese morpheme "Xiao" and research its significance of the development process of development from the perspective of diachronic. In this paper,there are ancient times, middle ancient times, modern times, present age for four stages. Statistics on the use frequency of each sememe,and to make each sememe system in frequency chart form. In addition,find out every time the meaning of "Xiao" development characteristics and the reasons.By studying the "Xiao" in the four periods can be drawn from the following characteristics:The ancient times-(1) Mostly sememes of "Xiao" have developed except the sememe "Xiao12"(concubine) and we can see the rest sememes in the pre-qin period.(2)"Xiao" has the strong ability of word formation which is given priority to with attributive structure and combined structure.The middle ancient times-(1)"Xiao" as morphemes constitute the words and phrases that reflect the new things, especially reflect public entertainment and buddhist culture.(2)"Xiao" as morphemes constitute a lot disyllabic and polysyllabic words.(3)"Xiao" as an affix has been basically mature.The modern times-(1)"Xiao" developed a new meanings of "concubine ".(2) Its affix levels continue to develop.The present age-(1)Thanks to the development of thinking clearly, spreads the development, social factors, individual sememes of "Xiao" disappeared.(2) Affix levels continued to deepen.
