This article try to make a deep and detailed reading of Plato’s "Phaedo". Maybe the language is really the shell of thinking, but only through the shell is the thinking touched. In "Phaedo" the soul and the language constitute Plato’s double saying. Without paying attetion to Plato’s beautiful and solemn language arts, we could not have a comprehensive and an accurate grasp of any proposition expressed in"Phaedo", such as the soul is immortal etc. In order to listen to Plato’s saying about the death completely, we must not only pay attention to listen to the contents of the expresson but also pay attention to the ways of the expression. Otherwise we could not understand Plato adequately. The thought is not only thinking of other people’s thinking. A thinker often completely lost oneself on the long thought trek. The thought without any self-consciousness is soulless. Like the saying, the thought has two sides. The thought is neither simply of the others nor simply of oneself. Reading and explaining, asking and answering, constructing and deconstructing, fulfilling and emptying, argument and poem, dialogue and monologue, truth and faith, through the analysis of all these concepts and their relationships, we could more accurately grasp the meaning of Plato’s saying in "Phaedo". And that will help us to further assess the effect of expression in Plato’s saying. This detailed reading and explaining of "Phaedo" will also help us to deepen our comprehension on some well known concepts in Plato’s philosophy. With this article,we try to demonstrate that soul is the basis and foudation of the language. Socrates’immortality is due to both Plato’s saying in "Phaedo" and the great souls of Socrates and Plato. Socrates’soul is more important than Plato’s saying. We can even say that philosophy is of souls rather than of saying or thinking. Socrates has no essays left. Socrates himself is philosophy.
