The Post-colonial Theory founder, Said, once said that that India cannot be avoided when the East is considered. An important phenomenon in literary is being witnessed in the world that Indian writers who write in English or Indian become more and they are skillful at telling stories. What is more, they are cosmopolitan and are constantly telling the South Asian sub-continent on the legend of the mysterious kingdom. Salman Rushdie is a quite legendary and controversial one among the Indian novelist. His works obtained almost all of the popular British Booker Prize choice finalists. At the same time, his work at the home country of India and the third world countries are frequently disputed. This paper will study and discuss the novel The Satanic Verses, a controversial works. The publication of The Satanic Verses caused immediate controversy in the Islamic world because of what was perceived as an irreverent depiction of Qur’an and the prophet Muhammad, and the Iranian religious leader Ruhollah Khomeini sent a fatwa to call for the execution of Rushdies. A bounty was offered for his death, and he was thus forced to live under police protection for several years. His life has been struggling and wandering among black and white, Islam and Hinduism, trying to find his own trajectory, especially in The Satanic Verses.The thesis begins with the Cultural identity and the Post-colonial theory is used to interpret Salman Rushdie combined with The Satanic Verses in religious and cultural.The thesis is divided into five parts including the introduction which describes the purpose and significance of Rushdie’s research works and thesis writing. The first chapter aims to explore their mixed cultural identity and characteristics of his work in this article are closely related to the concept of the religious study. As a "marginalized man", his own hybrid and ambivalent cultural identity influenced his traditional beliefs. The second chapter is focused on the growth of religious backgrounds of Rushdie. Through several aspects of religious view of Islam and the West, Rushdie discusses the underlying causes of his work, The Satanic Verses desecrating of Islamic and controversial. The point the author wants to make in this chapter is that Islam assumes a special importance among the Islamic countries and people, and that Rushdie’s "border-crossing" makes him an Orientalist. The third chapter goes into the text The Satanic Verses to explore the theme of the work of immigrants. It emphasizes that as an immigrant writer, Rushdie has never been able to get rid of wandering and loneliness. Just as protagonists in his work, who has experienced firstly from the envy of the sovereign state to lose their homes, then back to their homeland, and finally find the ownership of his soul. The conclusion part was focused on discourse from understanding of the religious, cultural conflict and thinking and pointed out that religion can be critical, but a theological or sociological basis is of absolute significance.’With16million believers, Islamic civilization has a long history and profound tradition. It has a huge impact on Muslim countries and people. Rushdie’s desecration of Qur’an and the Prophet Muhammad exposed his Orientalism ideology. The Satanic Verses which demonized that Islam is objectively advantaged by the side of western hegemony. Living in the crevices of Eastern and Western cultures, Rushdie returned to the mother culture finally. This is an interesting choice, and it also shows that in a globalized world, mutual tolerance and understanding among the Islamic and Western civilization, even other civilizations are extremely important on the fundamental questions of human survival and development.
