A Report Of The Translation Of Man, Woman And Child

With the development of translation study, cultural turn draws more and more attention of the translation cycle. The translator’s focus is not just restricted to the language level but extended to the cultural level. In translation, the cultural elements should be taken into consideration and the translation strategies should also be accordingly adjusted. As part of culture, the translator also plays an important role in the practice of translation and become the object of translation study. Guided by the theory of cultural translation, the author of this report translates the American writer Erich Segal’s novel Man, Woman and Child and makes this report. The report firstly brings in the relevant concepts of cultural turn including the translator’s subjectivity, introduces the contents of this practice and discusses the influence of cultural turn on the translator’s translation strategies especially in the choice of foreignization and domestication. Meanwhile, as a key part, the translator’s role in translation result will be analyzed in several aspects.
