The Significance Of He(Harmony) In Confucianism To The Construction Of Contemporary Harmonious Culture

With the changes and development of the society, conflicts appear inevitably in this process.The conflicts are mainly reflected in the following aspects: the unbalance of the relationshipbetween human and nature; the war fares among nations; the indifference of people and crisis ofindividual psychology, to name a few. Since the social revolution will definitely bringcontradiction, the urgent tasks go to coordinate it and convert it into the driving force to marchforward. If we can not manage the contradiction appropriately, turn a blind eye to it and seek thecommon points, it will do harm to the construction of contemporary harmonious culture as wellas impede the development of human civilization.This paper aims to discuss the thought of He(harmony) in Confucianism, regarding thoughtRen as the main value of thought He, regarding the thought of mean as a practical method so asto maintain a state of harmony: coexistence and co-create. It is not only an effective way toeradicate conflicts but also a significant method to promote the harmonious developmentbetween people and nature, society as well as themselves and facilitate the equal exchangesamong nations. What’s more, it can provide valuable references for the construction of contemporary harmonious culture. The whole thesis can be divided into five chapters.In the first chapter, the background and purpose of the topic selection are analyzed. Then, itwill define thought He in Confucianism as conceptual theory and present the value system ofthought He(harmony). Besides, it will combine thought He in Confucianism with theconstruction of contemporary harmonious culture in order to extract the contemporary value ofHe and its significance.In the second chapter, it probes into the origin of thought He. By elaborating “the debate onHe and Tong”in Chinese culture and tracing to the source of thought He, this paper will defineconnotation and essence of thought He in Confucianism.In the third chapter, through the analysis of thought He in Confucianism, it obtains the deepmeaning and finds out the common point with He(harmony) in Confucianism. In addition, itelaborates the Value orientation and carrying relationship of thought He and thought Ren inConfucianism.In the fourth chapter, it makes the golden mean of the Confucian school as methodology ofthought He in Confucianism. Through expounding the history and deep meaning of the goldenmean, it finds out the significance of the above methodology from the starting point of “ZHIZHONG ZHI HE”(solve the contradiction from the weakest place).In the fifth chapter, it gets the significance of He (harmony) in Confucianism to the construction of contemporary harmonious culture depending on the reference of humancivilization. To construct contemporary harmonious culture, it needs two aspects: social practiceand clash of civilizations.
